Welcome & Orientation
The MPH@GW student support team offers a series of communications to orient you to our community.
Welcome Email — Once we receive your enrollment forms and deposit, you will receive an email that provides initial steps to becoming a Colonial and inviting you to attend a Welcome Call with Student Support.
Welcome Call/Office Hours 1 — We hold both one-on-one welcome calls and small group office hours over the online learning platform for all new students. These sessions last approximately forty-five minutes and allow you to meet some of your classmates as well as a Student Support member, learn about the basic program information and expectations, see the online platform, test the system capability of your computer, and ask any questions. The one-on-one call will be scheduled directly with your student support advisor based on your availability, and you are able to choose from an array of office hour options that best fit your schedule.
Orientation — Orientation is the first course you will take as a student in the MPH@GW program. Conducted through our online learning platform, orientation contains helpful information about the university, the Milken Institute School of Public Health, online learning and how to use the features of the platform. The orientation course also reviews your degree requirements and provides course information for academic planning purposes.
Office Hours 2 — Now that you are more familiar with the MPH@GW technology and the overall community, you will have another Office Hour opportunity to dive deeper into the details and functionality of our learning platform. This live session provides you with the necessary information to attend, create, and run your own live sessions in the learning platform. It will also cover navigation of the learning management system. Once again, you will be able to choose from an array of office hours options that best fit your schedule.
Ongoing Support — Your Student Support advisors are available for ongoing assistance throughout your time in the MPH@GW program. Student Support advisors sit in on the first 2 weeks of classes to make them as seamless and cohesive as possible. Additionally, you can reach out directly to the person monitoring your class for instance assistance. Once classes begin, the Student Support team is available Monday-Friday from 7am-Midnight EST, as well as on weekends, to assist you with any issues that may arise.
Faculty Advising — All students will also be assigned a faculty advisor. While the Student Support team works on the mechanics and process involved with MPH@GW, your faculty advisor serve as your guide to the content of the program. S/he is available as a resource for you to discuss topics such as curriculum planning, areas of specialization or focus, academic progress and career paths. Your faculty advisor will reach out to you directly just before classes begin.
